EBRD Finances Small Business Support And Foreign Trade Promotion In Belarus

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is extending a €50 million financing package to Belinvestbank, the fourth largest bank in Belarus. The package will consist of two facilities: a €20 million line of credit to small businesses and the opening of a limit of up to €30 million available under the EBRD’s Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP). Foreigners choose Minsk and Gomel as Belarus’ most attractive FDI destinations

Companies located in the Minsk region attracted €3.8 billion of FDI in the first six months of 2015. The Main Statistical Bureau of Minsk City reported that out of that, 42 per cent were companies specialised in trade, 30.3 percent in transport and 14.6 per cent in communications. The main countries investing in the region were Russia, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, which accounted for 39 per cent, 26.7 per cent and 14.3 per cent of investment respectively. Belarus-Turkey Investment Forum to increase investment and trade between the two countries

“Belarus-Turkey cooperation has huge potential. It is not just another popular phrase mentioned during bilateral talks. It is true. There are huge opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation. Now, the Belarus-Turkey trade stands at $400 million, but it is obvious that the figure fails to reflect the existing opportunities. Belarus and Turkey are mutually complementary in the industrial sphere,” said Elnur Osmanov, Deputy Coordinator of the Turkey-Eurasian Business Councils in the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) under the aegis of the Turkish Economy Ministry, in Grodno on August 12. Slovenia is CEE’s leader in innovation

Slovenia is the fastest growing innovation follower and the regional leader and the only Eastern European country in the group together with countries like the UK, France and Netherlands among the innovation followers, says the latest European Commission’s Innovation Union Scoreboard. Only four countries rank in the first group among the innovation leaders: Sweden, Germany, Finland and Denmark. Slovenia’s performance has been steadily improving since the EC’s first scoreboard in 2007, having grown on average by 2.6 per cent since then – only three EU members have improved faster.
