Estonia 100

February 24, 2018, officially marks 100 years of the Republic of Estonia. Celebrations began with Estonia’s blue, black, and white flag being hoisted atop the same Tallinn tower it was flown from in 1918. Like its Baltic neighbours, Estonia was part of the Russian Empire and briefly Soviet Russia before it declared independence. The country was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940 and then by Germany for three years during World War II, after which it became part of the Soviet Union. Estonia regained its independence in 1991
