Emerging Europe was a media partner of the Twelfth Annual International Conference on Real Estate Development in Zagreb, which attracted more than 90 speakers and altogether more than 430 participants on 18 interesting panels. The participants the owners, presidents and members of the management boards, directors and senior managers of companies that participate in the commercial real estate and commercial property development projects. There were also bankers, lawyers, architects, contractors, users of commercial real estate, consultants and many others.
The Twelfth Conference had started with a welcome speech by the moderator of the panel Ms.Tanja Marković, Member of the Management Board at Filipović Business Advisory Ltd. After expressing warm welcome to all participants, the word was given to Mr. Vlaho Kojaković, a prominent banker and well-known expert in real estate development from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. After his interesting introduction the moderator invited on stage Ms.Claudia Pendred, Director of Property and Tourism of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Mr. James Drinkwater, Director for Europe of the World Green Building Council, as well as Ms. Vedrana Jelušić Kašić, Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Croatia and Slovenia, and Ms. Petra Škevin, the President of the Management Board of the Croatian Green Building Council.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Europe Regional Network of the World Green Building Council (WGBC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which they agree to work together in support of sustainable property development with a special emphasis on energy and resource efficiency as well as reduction of carbon emissions. The WGBC is a global network of Green Building Councils (GBCs), with 25 GBCs, 6 Regional Partners and over 5,000 members in Europe, aiming to make buildings and communities sustainable through leadership and market transformation. The EBRD supports the development of the private sector in its more than 30 countries of operations spanning three continents. In order to translate the Memorandum of Understanding into concrete steps the two parties agreed a work programme for 2016 where Croatia will be the first country they will work in, alongside the Croatia Green Building Council. This will include collaborating on financing components of Croatia’s national building renovation strategy through the GBCs’ BUILD UPON project (www.buildupon.eu), as part of this pan-European project.
After a successfully signed Memorandum of Understanding, the participants were welcomed by Ms. Mirka Jozić, The Delegate on behalf of the Mayor, City of Zagreb; Principal, City Office for Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship. Afterwards Ms. Cordula Wohlmuther, Head of Institutional Relations and Resource Mobilization from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) had a very professional, effective and interesting presentation on tourism trends and 2030 forecast from UNWTO point of view. Mr. Siniša Topalović, Director of Horwath HTL followed up with his presentation Croatian tourism view. Mr. Sven Müller, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection Fund, briefly referred to the environmental protection as one of priorities of European Croatia. Panel was concluded by Mr. Lovro Kuščević, Minister of Construction and Physical Planning, who officially opened the Twelfth Conference.
