Bishop Demands Removal of Świebodzin Christ Statue Antennae

Following recent news that antennae had been mounted on the Świebodzin Christ statue, the tallest statue of Christ in the world, the area’s bishop has revealed he knew nothing of their installation, and has demanded they be removed.

The existence of the antennae were revealed by local journalists using drones, with authorities later claiming that the arrangement was to provide internet access to nearby villages. The local priest had initially responded to media scrutiny by explaining that there was an agreement with the internet provider which was legal and managed by the parish.

However, Father Andrzej Sapieha, spokesperson for the Diocesan Curia in Zielona Góra, released a statement in which he explained that the Curia and the media had been misled by the priest’s comments, as the arrangement had not been approved. He went on to say that aside from a hotspot near the Christ statue, there were no other gratuities for the parish in the agreement.

Bishop Tadeusz Lityński ordered the antenna to be removed by May 10, saying “their presence may hurt the sensitivity of many people, especially believers.”

  • Disgusting! Did jesus run around talking about building massive statues to him and god, or did he talk about helping the poor? These bishops would be despised by jesus were he there in person.

      • I go for unity. Let us pray for these separated brethren that they may see the real truth and come back to the Catholic Church. John 10:16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

        • “My house is a house of prayer and you have made it a den for thieves.”
Then Jesus made a whip and hit them with it and turned over the money tables. Give to God what belongs to God.

        • Good for you Domingo. If Christians do not stand together, the devil will divide. That’s his job – to make us as miserable as possible on this beautiful earth God made for us, and we turn on each other, One day all will see the truth of the Catholic (meaning universal) Church Christ instituted and as he said himself – the gates of hell will not prevail against it – that he will be with it until the end of time. So, take heart – Christianity will never be eradicated, no matter how the secular world with it’s rejection of morality, decency, respect and love and fear of God and his laws are dismissed, we must continue to pray for fervently for us and our common humanity that many daily hurts our Great and Kind creator with our many sins against Him. Gog Bless you.

      • Saints and the Church have said that statues and paintings are the gospel to the illiterate and the poor. They inspire them and draw them closer to God. Your legalistic interpretation of Scripture is hurtful and wrong —- and you only use it when it favors your preferred positions. Don’t tell me a poor family having a crucifix hanging in their home is offensive to God. You saying that is offensive.
And the Catholic Church has done more for the poor around the world than any other nation or institution in history by far.

    • Your words are that of Judas who rebuked the penitent woman who anointed lavishly the feet of Jesus with very expensive perfumed ointment. Judas rebuked her for such waste of money which could be given to the poor. However, Jesus corrected Judas to not disturb her in her expression of devotion to him. This monument was built because the faithful wanted to. The bishops are never remiss in the Church’s work for the poor and suffering. However, their work is not only limited to that, they also nurture the expression of the faith of the Christian faithful. Do you have problems with that?
