Przemysław Staroń, a teacher of ethics, philosophy and arts history working in a high school in Sopot, a seaside resort on the Baltic Sea, has been named the Poland’s Teacher of the Year for 2018.
“I would like to invite all of you who have come here with me on to the stage. Come, don’t be afraid. In the worst case scenario, they will reclaim the title,” said Mr Staroń while accepting the award at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
He has since complained about all the attention he has been receiving simply for being gay, saying: “I won Teacher of the Year, not the Gay Poland competition.”
