The Bulgarian Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC), the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy, the Serbian Energy Agency (AERS), the Macedonian Energy Regulatory Commission, and the Montenegrin Energy Regulatory Agency have agreed to establish a permanent advisory forum. The agreement was signed in the Greek city of Thessaloniki and the Bulgarian EWRC will preside over the forum for the first year.
In a press release, the Serbian AERS stated that the forum will provide a framework for discussions, exchange of experience, and where possible, the development of common positions and recommendations on regulatory issues falling within the scope of the electricity, gas and water and sewerage markets in the region.
The forum’s governing board will include senior representatives of the founding national regulators. The board will hold annual meetings in the autumn to adopt a basic framework for discussions over the next two years on priority topics. Working groups of experts from national regulatory bodies will be formed to analyse and address specific issues in the energy and water sectors.
The advisory forum was first initiated by the Bulgarian EWRC itself in early March at the regional meeting of Balkan energy regulators in the town of Veliko Tarnovo in northern Bulgaria.
