The United States House of Representatives has voted to approve a defence aid package for Ukraine worth 700 million US dollars, the Embassy of Ukraine in the US has said in a statement.

According to the Ukrainian media, the bill approved by the House provides 250 million US dollars to develop Ukraine’s security and defence capabilities, with 50 million US dollars being allocated for lethal weapons.

The remaining 450 million US dollars will be provided within the framework of the Foreign Military Financing Programme of the US Department of State.

The US Senate is yet to approve the legislation. Afterwards, the bill will be sent to president Donald Trump for promulgation.

The programme will be implemented from 2020.  If adopted, the bill will provide funds for programmes related to military personnel training, provision of military hardware and equipment, logistics and support for Ukrainian intelligence services.
