Republika Srpska completes Bočac 2 hydropower plant

Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS), the power utility of Bosnia’s Serb entity, the Republika Srpska, has unveiled the completed Bočac 2 hydropower plant (HPP), which has an installed capacity of 8.76 MW and expected annual output of 41.6 GWh of electricity.

The project cost 21.5 million euros and is expected to break even within seven years and creates 32 jobs.

“Such facilities produce energy and stability, which is our priority. In the future, the Serb Republic will have to build more such facilities,” said Milorad Dodik, the president of the Republika Srpska.

In addition, a newly built small hydropower plant (SHPP) with an installed capacity of 586 kW close to HPP Bočac 1 was also unveiled. The SHPP will serve the self-consumption of Hidroelektrane na Vrbasu (HNV), a subsidiary of ERS.

HNV is the direct investor in the project and stated that HPP Bočac uses a clean and renewable energy, thus having no adverse impact on the environment.

HNV General Manager Nedeljko Kesić stated that annual revenues from the new HPP will be 2.81 million euros.

  • “HNV is the direct investor in the project and stated that HPP Bočac uses a clean and renewable energy, thus having no adverse impact on the environment.”

Absolute lies!! The hydropower industry is being exposed for NOT being a clean and renewable energy source and having one of the largest negative impacts on the environment. The GHG emissions can be greater than a coal plant even, but you won’t hear the greedy climate wreckers HNV tell you that.

On top of which, the damming of the river itself causes huge negative environmental impact.

Milorad Dodik is a liar and should hang his head in shame. If they wanted energy and stability they would have gone for true renewables instead i.e. solar or wind. That would have created far more jobs than the measly 32 jobs this project has created and would have provided a much better cost per kWh.

    This dam should be destroyed.
