Polish carrier LOT has been named the best airline in emerging Europe by US magazine Global Traveler. It is the second year in a row that LOT has won the award, outranking rivals such as Russia’s Aeroflot, Croatia Airlines and Hungary’s low-cost carrier Wizzair.
“It’s an important award, which attests to the fact that LOT is becoming more popular and recognisable overseas,” said LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki.
“The rapid growth of both short- and long-haul connections makes LOT the airline of choice for passengers travelling to and from the fastest expanding region in the continent, Central and Eastern Europe.”
Nearly nine million passengers flew with LOT this year, more than in any previous year. The airline is targeting 10 million passengers in 2019.
LOT was also honoured in the Best New Air Link category for launching direct flights from New York to Budapest. Today, LOT has a total of 107 connections, with direct flights from Warsaw to Miami, Los Angeles, Newark, Seoul, Tokyo and Singapore and from Budapest to New York and Chicago.
