Outgoing Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has spoken with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde about Ukraine’s financial situation and the implementation of further reforms.
The IMF chief thanked president Poroshenko for cooperation during his presidency, saying that “Ukraine successfully returned to macro-stability and growth, following the deep economic crisis of 2014–2015.”
Mrs Lagarde believes that macrofinancial stability and the functioning of the banking system to be the main results of the Poroshenko presidency.
“At the same time, concern was expressed about the situation with judicial processes in Ukraine with the aim of returning PrivatBank to private ownership, which could jeopardise the financial stability of the state,” an the IMF in a statement.
Mrs Lagarde also stressed the importance of ensuring the independence of the National Bank of Ukraine and urged the country to continue its reform process, adding that the IMF is ready to further develop cooperation.
