TVEL Fuel Company, part of Rosatom, has agreed to supply Slovenské elektrárne with fuel for nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Slovakia for the next five years, with the possibility of a contract extension to 2030.
Russian nuclear fuel will be supplied to the four operational power units at Bohunice NPP and Mochovce NPP, as well as the two units of Mochovce NPP.
“Rosatom’s fuel division has unique experience and expertise in the production of nuclear fuel for VVER-440 reactors in compliance with individual customer requirements. According to the agreement, TVEL, together with Slovak specialists, will optimise the fuel cycle strategy of the Slovak NPPs in order to improve their economic efficiency,” said Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL.
Furthermore, Russia and Slovakia are in talks about Bratislava joining the Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream gas pipeline projects.
“We need to find common points and mutually beneficial cooperation areas concerning connecting Slovakia to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, as well as to Turkish Stream,” said Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev during a meeting with his Slovak counterpart Peter Pellegrini in Moscow.
