The Danish ROCKWOOL Group, the world’s largest mineral wool producer, has opened its first Romanian plant from an investment of 50 million euros located near Ploiești in south-central Romania.
With the new factory, which has an annual capacity of 45,000 tonnes, the Danish company has the largest specialised plant in Romania.
ROCKWOOL’s products will be mainly used for building insulation, with most of its products up for delivery on the Romanian market since the country is one of the top European insulation markets while a part of its production will be exported, particularly to Romania’s neighbours.
“The ROCKWOOL factory is ready after the end of a year-long construction effort, and we have already started commercial production. Now we can proudly say that we have the first ROCKWOOL Made in Romania. Our customers will have products of the same quality that we have become accustomed to over the last 20 years, but delivered faster,” said Florin Popescu, the business unit director at ROCKWOOL Balkans, adding that the company’s main goal is to create safe solutions for all types of applications, to deliver products that are fire resistant, non-combustible, contribute to energy efficiency and are fully recyclable.
The plant is currently employing 150, mostly local people from the Prahova county, and seeks to have an additional 300 employees on the long-term.
“This investment will enable us to better support the Romanian government’s efforts to increase fire safety and energy efficiency in the country’s buildings,” ROCKWOOL Group vice president Gilles Maria said back in 2017 when the investment was announced.
