Belarus signs international transport agreement with UK

The United Kingdom and Belarus have signed a bilateral agreement on international road transportation, the Belarusian media has reported.

The agreement between the two governments includes regulations on the transportation of passengers and cargoes between the UK and Belarus.

Among others, the agreement bans coastal shipping and sets terms for mutual exemptions from customs duties and taxes on transport vehicle owners.

“The most important effect we are waiting for is an increase in the export of transport services. All our further actions, and the signing of the agreement, should contribute to the increase of export earnings for the country as a whole and transport services in particular,” Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko told the press.

British Ambassador to Belarus Fiona Gibb added that the agreement was aimed at establishing simplified conditions for international transport.

Currently, the highest share of goods transported from Belarus to the UK consists of auto parts, medicines and other liquid goods.

The Belarusian government has expressed plans to conclude a similar agreement with China, expected to happen this year.
