President’s party maintains comfortable lead ahead of Ukrainian election

The Servant of the Nation party, led by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, maintains a comfortable lead over its political contenders, latest polls say.

According to Ukraine’s Rating Sociological Group (RSG), the president’s party would receive 42.3 per cent of the vote among those intending to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections. However, support for the party has decreased by two per cent compared to RSG’s last poll.

The pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life party would get 13.4 per cent, a slight increase compared to previous polls. The European Solidarity party headed by former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has also strengthened and now polls at 8.3 per cent.

The Voice party of former Ukrainian singer Svyatoslav Vakarchuk and the Batkivshchyna party led by Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine’s former prime minister are both supported by 7.2 per cent of voters.

Aside from the five aforementioned parties, the right-wing Strength and Honour party, run by former security official Igor Smeshko has a chance of entering the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament. Support for the party was recorded at 3.8 per cent.

The Ukrainian Strategy party led by outgoing prime minister Volodymyr Groysman would receive 2.8 per cent, well below the five per cent threshold.

Ukraine’s snap parliamentary elections will be held on July 21.
