Close to 12,000 Ukrainian households have installed solar photovoltaic (PV) panels with a total capacity of about 280 megawatts (MW) in the first half of 2019, the country’s State Agency on Energy Efficiency has announced.
“The volume of household investment in 280 MW solar PV panels reached more than 240 million euros,” energy agency director Serhiy Savchuk said on July 30.
Mr Savchuk said that more than 3,000 households installed solar PV panels with a total capacity of over 85 MW in the second quarter of this year, which is more than twice the growth during of the first quarter.
According to the state energy agency, Dnipropetrovsk is the leading region in the use of solar PV panels (with more than 1,500 household systems of up to 40 MW), followed by the Ternopil region (1,200 systems/33 MW) and the Kyiv city region (1,000 systems/20MW).
“Given that there are 6.5 million households in Ukraine, the market potential for solar panels is considerable,” the agency added in its statement.
