IKEA set to open second Romanian store

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has announced that its second store in Romania will open on June 24. The new store is located in the east of the country’s capital Bucharest and will be IKEA’s largest in the CEE region.

“After excellent progress in construction over the past few months, I am glad to announced that we will open the store on June 24 and bring our vision of a better day-to-day life closer to even more people in Romania. Besides the construction of our store, we’ve also completed the recruitment process, and our employees are ready to welcome our guests and clients at the opening,” said store manager Cas Lachaert.

The new store will employ 600 people.

IKEA’s first Romanian store opened in the north of Bucharest in 2007. Last year the company recorded sales of 609.3 million lei (128.96 million euros) excluding VAT, a 10.6 per cent increase on 2017.

IKEA is expected to open a third store in Romania, in the western city of Timișoara, in 2020.
