China’s COSCO launches intermodal shipping service in Rijeka

China’s COSCO Shipping Lines has launched a new intermodal shipping service linking the Croatian Adriatic port of Rijeka to the countries of Central Europe, the Croatian transport ministry said.

The new service was inaugurated on October 21 at Rijeka port’s Adriatic Gate Container Terminal, the ministry said in a statement.

The new service comprises the regular marine shipping line Piraeus-Rijeka Express Service (PRS service) and block train railway lines on the routes Rijeka-Budapest-Rijeka and Rijeka-Belgrade-Rijeka.

With the new Rijeka Land Sea Express services, COSCO can offer 32-day transit from eastern China to Hungary’s capital Budapest and a 28-day transit from southern China to Budapest, Croatian state news agency Hina reported.

COSCO Shipping Lines is part of COSCO Group, a Chinese state-owned shipping and logistics services supplier company.
