According to a recent survey published by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PKS), while just three per cent of Serbian business are majority-owned by companies with foreign ownership, they generate 20 per cent of the country’s added value.
The survey says this accounts for more than 50 per cent of Serbia’ exports and nearly half of the total retail revenues in the country.
Most of the foreign-owned companies operate in the banking sector and the automotive (mostly auto parts) industry, the Head of PKS’ Analytics and Services Department Bojan Stanic said, adding that the mining sector has also started experiencing an increased foreign presence.
In addition, over 55 per cent of commercial outlet spaces are owned by foreigners, the survey reports.
