Chinese IT giant Huawei has signed a cooperation agreement with the Hungarian government in order to help Hungary improve its broadband services. It is hoped that the deal will help Hungary achieve its target of being able to offer 90 per cent of all households 100Mbps internet speeds by 2025.
The deal was signed during a high-profile visit to China by the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who was accompanied by a large trade delegation.
“Huawei has been successful in Hungary, and has invested 1.2 billion US dollars in the country since we began operations there in 2005,” said Guo Ping, deputy and rotating chairman of Huawei.
“We expect Huawei to begin building a home 5G network soon,” said László Palkovics, Hungary’s minister of innovation and technology.
“The company aims to help Hungary via its solutions to environmental protection and improvement of living conditions, by supporting sustainability-friendly cities, and by the introduction of intelligent transport systems. The ministry and the company will also cooperate in implementing the goals of the Digital Wellbeing Programme and in the digital transformation of education,” the minister continued.
Huawei is one of the leading mobile network manufacturers in the world and the founding member of the 5G Coalition.
