Huawei to launch digital hub in Serbia

Chinese information and telecommunications giant Huawei has announced plans to build an innovation centre in Serbia with the aim of supporting digital transformation in the Western Balkans.

According to Serbian government officials, the Chinese company will provide a platform for developing the digital transformation of local systems in the financial, energy, education and transport sectors within the public sphere.

As part of China’s One Belt One Road Initiative, the Serbian and the Chinese governments have also agreed on making Huawei a strategic partner in Serbia’s smart city strategy.

Through positioning Huawei as a strategic partner, Serbia hopes to boost its potential in building a network of smart cities and local governments including Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad and becoming a regional centre for digitalisation.
