Moldova is set to make a significant impact on the global digital landscape as it hosts the Moldova Digital Summit 2024 from June 6-7 in the country’s capital, Chișinău.
Under the theme, Powering a 100% Digital Tomorrow, the event serves as a platform to emphasize holistic transformation, integrating digital technologies across government, society, and the economy. Moldova Digital Summit aims to position Moldova as a regional leader in the digital arena, fostering innovation, collaboration, and international partnerships.
Co-organised by Invest Moldova Agency along with other partners and sponsors, the summit brings together local and international innovators, businesses, and forward-thinkers to chart the course for Moldova’s digital future.
Moldova Digital Summit 2024 will gather over 3,000 participants from Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, the UK, Sweden, and beyond. Attendees can expect inspiring speakers, showcases from innovative entrepreneurs, B2B workshops, and an extensive expo area, all focused on advancing digital transformation.
Building on last year’s success, this year’s summit promises to be larger and more impactful.
The event will explore several key strategies for digital acceleration: public services, economy and businesses, skill development, digital infrastructure.
#MDS24 will feature over 50 speakers discussing government digital transformation, global digital ecosystems, AI, and cybersecurity. With more than 25 panel discussions and workshops, participants will explore G2B and B2B collaboration opportunities.
Renowned international experts will share their expertise at Moldova Digital Summit. Among them is Andrew Wrobel, founding partner of Emerging Europe, who recently stated in an interview: “Only Estonia has proportionally more people employed in the IT sector than Moldova across 23 countries of emerging Europe—yes, Moldova outperforms IT powerhouses such as Poland, Ukraine, or Romania. This is a sign of how serious the sector already is. With tech and IT capabilities now needed in every sector, including BPO, the impact is significant.”
The Expo Area (1,000 m²) will showcase digitalisation efforts, featuring real-time demonstrations like obtaining electronic signatures, digital IDs, and the new “one-stop shop” app for Moldova’s public services, EVO.
Moldova’s information technology industry
Moldova’s information technology industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years, quickly becoming one of the country’s most dynamic economic sectors. Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP), Europe’s first e-Park, catalyses innovation and growth in the IT, R&D, and engineering sectors through strategic incentives, include unique taxation: MITP residents benefit from a flat tax rate of seven per cent on turnover, with incentives available until 2035.
Foreign investments in Moldova’s IT sector doubled during the 2018-2022 period and the number of companies with foreign capital increased to 207. In terms of economic contribution, 73 per cent of the revenue of the IT industry in Moldova is generated by MITP residents.
In addition, the IT industry’s contribution to Moldova’s GDP increased from 2.7 per cent to 5.1 per cent, with eight out of ten of all IT employees working in MITP resident companies.
“We are delighted to invite you to join us at this pivotal event for the Republic of Moldova’s digital future,” says Natalia Bejan, director of Invest Moldova Agency.
“Moldova is rapidly emerging as a regional leader in the technology sector, with remarkable growth and innovation across its IT landscape, thanks to the talent, ease of doing business in Moldova, but also the best fiscal system for IT companies on the European continent of a unique single seven per cent tax on revenue, and an extended state guarantee until the end of 2035.
“The Moldovan IT industry generates seven per cent of the country’s GDP with over one billion US dollars in annual revenue. With a workforce of over 20,000 professionals and numerous successful companies, Moldova is rapidly advancing in the digital realm.
“We hope you will join us in Chișinău as we build a 100 per cent digital tomorrow for Moldova, which will not only benefit the country but also contribute to the advancement of the entire region.”
Moldova Digital Summit 2024 will showcase the country’s dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration in the tech sector. With sponsors like Orange, Mastercard, and Microsoft, the event is expected to attract a diverse range of stakeholders and pave the way for Moldova’s digital future.
