FDI in Ukraine shows slight increase in first quarter

The State Statistics Service of Ukraine has reported that foreign direct investment into the Ukrainian economy grew by 45.5 million US dollars, or 0.1 per cent, in the first quarter of 2019, increasing total FDI volume to 32.9 billion US dollars.

According to Ukrainian officials, new investments made during the January-March period amounted to 587.6 million US dollars, with investments into the financial and insurance sectors standing at 55.5 per cent (326.3 million US dollars), while the investment outflow was estimated at 496.5 million US dollars within the same period.

Among the top investors during the given period were Russia (97.9 million US dollars), the Netherlands (72.9 million US dollars) and Switzerland (48.2 million US dollars), while the largest investment outflows were directed to Hungary, the UK and Luxembourg.

In February, the statistical office reported that the stock of foreign direct investment in Ukraine had grown by 2.2 per cent (690 million US dollars) in 2018 compared to 2017.
