According to a poll conducted by Ukraine’s Centre for Social Monitoring, only four parties would pass the five per cent threshold to enter the Verkhovna Rada in the country’s upcoming parliamentary election on July 21.
Conducted between May 15 and 31, the CSM poll finds that new Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People Party leads with 40.9 per cent. The Opposition Platform – For Life Party would come in second with 11.1 per cent of the votes while former president Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity Party polls at 10.5 per cent. The Batkivhschyna Party led by former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko would receive 9.3 per cent.
Two further political forces, Igor Smeshko’s Strength and Honor Party (4.9 per cent), and Anatoly Grytsenko’s Civic Position Party (4.8 per cent), would fall slightly short of entering parliament while support for 16 other formations, including former Ukrainian PM Volodymyr Groysman’s Ukrainian Strategy Party and the People’s Front Party headed by his predecessor Arseniy Yatsenyuk ranged between 0.3 and 3.3 per cent. The party of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili was not among those measured by the poll.
In addition, CSM said that around 80 per cent of Ukrainians had expressed their intention to vote in the parliamentary election.
