Revenues in the Georgian tourism sector reached 3.05 billion US dollars between January and November, 1.1 per cent (35.4 million US dollars) more than during the first eleven months of 2018, the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) has announced.
According to the Georgian government agency, tourism revenues in November amounted to 201.7 million US dollars, showing a 5.6 per cent increase compared with the corresponding month of last year.
In the reporting period, Georgia saw an all-time high in the number of international travelers visiting the country – close to 8.69 million, a 7.2 per cent increase in comparison with the first eleven months of 2018.
Visits made by international travelers in November stood at more than 670,000, 12 per cent more than in November 2018.
The numbers come as a boost for Georgia, not least as the ban of flights to and from the country from Russia – imposed by Russia’s resident Vladimir Putin earlier this year – had been expected to have a negative effect on the Georgian economy.
