Ali Asadov, previously an economic advisor to President Ilham Aliyev, has been named as the new prime minister of Azerbaijan.
Mr Asadov’s appointment – unanimously approved by Azerbaijan’s parliament – comes just hours after the previous PM, Norvuz Mamedov, tendered his resignation.
Mr Mamedov, 72, cited a wish to retire as his reason for leaving office.
He had been the country’s prime minister since April 2018.
