Made inSilesia: A catalogue of success

Poland’s Silesia region, in the past identified with heavy industry and mining, is today increasingly promoting its innovative economy, based on knowledge and modern technologies. As a result, the region has in recent years seen an economic transformation in which new solutions are being created in a wide range of sectors.

As a region with a population of 4.5 million (making it the second largest region in Poland), the highest urbanisation rate in Poland (77 per cent of people live in cities), a well-developed communication and road infrastructure – nearly 400 kilometres of motorways and expressways, it is the headquarters for about 522,000 enterprises.

The high concentration of manufacturing entities means that companies in the region account for a significant share of Poland’s exports—around 12 per cent of the country’s total export value. Similarly, the share of the Silesia region is significant in terms of the number of exporters—more than 10 per cent of exporters nationwide.

Silesia region is committed to promoting entrepreneurship, maintaining the investment attractiveness of the region, attracting investors and supporting the internationalisation of its enterprises.

One of the promotional tools making this possible is the Made inSilesia catalogue, which presents the potential of companies from the region. These are companies exporting their products and services and planning to enter foreign markets as well.

The Department of Economy and International Cooperation of the Marshal Office of the Silesian Voivodeship has just published the second edition of the catalogue, to which 100 companies from the region applied. The previous edition in 2022 attracted around 80 companies, which indicates the growing interest of such a form of promotion.

Aleksandra Monsiol-Szatkowska, Director of the Department of Economy and International Cooperation at the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, who supervised the project, says that companies from the Silesian Voivodeship are increasingly taking up the challenge of internationalisation.

“The Marshal’s Office, through the Department of Economy and International Cooperation inSilesia, provides an opportunity for companies from the region to present their products and services in a broader way by organising joint participation in trade fairs, economic missions in Europe and around the world and through the madeinSilesia catalogue, which will be distributed among the numerous partnerships which the region has developed over the last few years around the world.

“We support our local investors and exporters and invite them to further cooperation. I would like to thank the entire team of the Silesian Investor and Exporter Assistance Centre (which operate in the frames of Department of Economy and International Cooperation) for their work on this catalogue.”

The catalogue is a presentation of companies based in the Silesia Region and is divided into 12 industry sectors. There is a brief description of the company’s activities, markets on which it already operates and its address data. The catalogue is mainly addressed to entities interested in cooperation with companies from Silesia region.

It will be presented and distributed at trade fairs, economic missions, meetings with potential investors, in which employees of the Department of Economy and International Cooperation will participate. It will also be forwarded to a number of institutions with which the Marshal Office of the Silesian Voivodeship cooperates.
