At the end of October the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) organised its international business-to-business event called the Slovak Matchmaking Fair (Slovenská kooperačná burza). The event, attended by around 300 companies, was held for the first time in Košice, the largest city in eastern Slovakia.

The Slovak Matchmaking Fair is the biggest B2B event of its kind in Slovakia. It focuses on bilateral negotiations as well as partnership offers, tenders, available production capacities and possible cooperation partners in fields such as the automotive sectors, engineering, information and communications technology, and research and development.

“This model of business co-operation has proven to be very successful,” Peter Žiga, the minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic under which auspices the event was held, told Parlamentné listy. “It is important that businessmen can meet in Košice, not just in Bratislava, equally important is the fact that our southern neighbours have become actively involved.” This year was the first year when The Slovak Matchmaking Fair was held in cooperation with the Slovak-Hungarian Business Forum (Slovensko-maďarské podnikateľské forum).

“I am glad that the Slovak Matchmaking Fair in Košice, in coordination with the economic sector, also provided space for the Slovak-Hungarian Business Forum,” Robert Šimončič, the CEO of SARIO, told Parlamentné listy. “As Hungary is Slovakia’s seventh most important trading partner, and is among the top ten investors in Slovakia, I see a great benefit in the future in a constructive discussion about the synergy of cooperation and the development of innovation potential within the region.”

The Slovak Matchmaking Fair was attended 287 companies from 19 different countries. The majority were Slovak, Hungarian, and Chinese companies, with attendees participating in more than 740 pre-planned bilateral meetings.
