The nationalist Vetevendosje party and the centre-right Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) are close to forming a governing coalition after positive talks in the Kosovan capital of Prishtina on October 10.
The two parties won the most support in a snap parliamentary election, held on October 6.
“We have agreed to govern together,” said Vetevendosje leader Albin Kurti. “We have agreed to have a government with fewer ministries, fewer deputy ministers but with an increase worth ethic, because there is much to do,” he told reporters.
The two sides have also agreed to make sure that 30 per cent of the cabinet is comprised of women.
“We are now just waiting to see which party takes the most votes. Whoever wins will take the post of prime minister,” said LDK leader Vjosa Osmani.
The two parties are currently separated by just a few thousand votes, with around 30,000 postal votes from the Kosovan diaspora yet to be counted.
If Osmani (pictured above) becomes PM, she will be the first woman to hold the post.
