Ukraine’s deputy prime minister and minister of regional development Hennadiy Zubko has said that the country’s economy will be able to do without gas imports in five years due to increasing gas production and a continuous decrease in the country’s gas consumption.
The deputy PM added that it is better to invest in energy efficiency measures than in gas production.
“I advocate reducing gas consumption,” he said. “This will help reduce the tariff burden on the population, increase quality of life and boost competitive products, which should have lower energy intensity,” said the deputy PM.
Mr Zubko said that the government’s current priority is to reduce the price of energy paid by businesses, households, as well as the energy and utility sectors.
