Ukraine to launch global Russian language TV channel

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy chief of staff to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that a world-wide Russian language TV channel will be launched in Ukraine to strengthen the country’s position in the information war with Russia.

In an interview with Interfax Ukraine, Mr Tymoshenko said that the new TV channel was needed to counter the pro-Russian information narrative, but also to reach Russians living in the Russian Federation.

“We have to admit that Ukraine practically lost the information war for the minds of people in the occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea. But there is still a chance to turn the situation into another direction,” he told Interfax Ukraine, adding that the new channel will reach a Russian-speaking population all over the world.

The deputy chief of staff noted that President Zelensky wanted it to be a state channel, but there are negotiations with private channels about possible cooperation.
