Norway’s Scatec Solar begins construction of solar power plant in Ukraine

Norwegian energy company Scatec Solar has begun construction of a 148-megawatt solar power plant in the Mykolaiv region of southern Ukraine.

The so-called Progressovka project is being carried out in collaboration with Chinese energy giant PowerChina Guizhou, which is providing construction financing and engineering procurement and construction services to the project, while Scatec Solar, the project’s equity investor will be responsible for engineering management, operation, maintenance and asset management.

“The Progressovka project is another confirmation of our strong position in Ukraine where we currently have a project portfolio of 500 MW,” said Scatec Solar CEO Raymond Carlsen, adding that PowerChina’s two-year financing covers 65 per cent of the projects 124 million euros budget.

Expected to produce 187 gigawatts a year, the plant will provide clean energy for around 76,000 households and reduce annual carbon emissions by 150,000 tonnes.
