Bulgarian sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder of journalist

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the rape and murder of Bulgarian journalist and TV presenter Viktoria Marinova.

Severin Krasimirov was also ordered to pay Marinova’s family 450,000 leva (230,280 euros).

Marinova was attacked, raped and killed in the northern Bulgarian city of Ruse on October 6 last year. Mr Krasimirov was apprehended in Germany four days later.

Prosecutors said that the crime was not related to Ms Marinova’s work as a journalist. She had been investigating alleged corruption involving EU funds.
