Developing women entrepreneurs a priority for Azerbaijan

The development of entrepreneurship opportunities for women is one of the top priorities of the Azerbaijani government and reforms, which are currently being carried out, have a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises, Orkhan Mammadov, the chairman of Azerbaijan’s SME development agency has said.

According to Azerbaijani state news agency Trend, Mr Mammadov said that the one of the main goals of the government was to achieve the formation of a diversified, competitive national economy that ensures sustainable economic growth and relies on the development of entrepreneurship.

“The business and investment environment has been improved, entrepreneurs, including women entrepreneurs, have become the leading force of society thanks to the successful economic reforms carried out in the country recently,” he said.

Mr Mammadov stressed that the country’s SME development agency was taking “the necessary measures” to promote women’s entrepreneurship and increase the number of women and small and medium-size businesses for which they provide appropriate mechanism and information support.
