Serbia’s ICT exports grow to over 900 million euros

The Serbian ICT industry generated 913 million euros worth of exports during the first eight months of the year, a 26.4 per cent increase compared with the corresponding period of 2018, the Serbian press has reported.

The ICT industry’s exports are twice as high as in 2016.

“The introduction of computer science as a compulsory subject from the fifth grade of primary school, the increase of budgets of university IT departments by more than 20 per cent, and the start of the construction of innovation infrastructure through investments of more than 100 million euros are the most significant accomplishments [of the last three years],” wrote the Serbian Monitor, quoting a government statement.

According to the National Bank of Serbia, the trade surplus of the ICT sector currently stands at around 500 million euros, which is much higher in comparison with other sectors of Serbia’s economy.

The ICT sector continues to enjoy the focus of Serbian prime minister Ana Brnabić since since it is one of the most promising sectors of the economy and one of the biggest drivers of Serbia’s GDP growth, the statement added.
