Slovenia’s GH Holding signs 26.5 million-euro Croatian waste management deal

Slovenia’s largest construction company GH Holding will build a waste management centre in Croatia, the biggest in the country.

“Winning the deal in an international public call for applications was in line with the company’s long-term strategy of expanding its presence in Croatia,” said Roland Tušar, head of GH Holding.

The 26.5 million-euro project will include the construction of a modern facility for the mechanical biological treatment of waste, support facilities, a composting plant, road, substation and the supply of vehicles to be used at the centre.

“After the construction of the plant, the Bikarac Waste Management Centre will be the central and most important infrastructural facility of the entire waste management system of Šibenik-Knin county,” added Robert Podrug, director of public utility company Bikarac, which signed the contract with GH Holding.

“Waste management is much more than a communal service, it is a question of quality of life,” underlined Željko Burić, mayor of Šibenik. “Šibenik will become one of the first cities in Croatia with a complete waste management system, all in line with the principles of sustainable development.”
