Georgian tourism gets Ryanair boost

Ryanair announced on August 21 that it will be launching routes to western Europe from two airports in Georgia, Tbilisi and Kutaisi.

From November, the airline will operate flights from Tbilisi to Bergamo, Italy, and from Kutaisi to Marseille in France and Bologna in Italy. Nine more as yet unnamed destinations are set to be added to the Irish airline’s Georgian offering from 2020.

“I have just signed an agreement with Ryanair, which marks the successful completion of intensive negotiations held over the past few months,” said George Chogovadze, CEO of United Airports Georgia.

The announcement provides a huge shot in the arm to Georgia’s tourist industry, which has been hit by a ban on flights to and from Russia which came into effect in July.
