Wizz Air announces major new Kyiv expansion

Wizz Air, the largest airline in emerging Europe, announced on August 30 that it will further expand its operations in Ukraine by launching five new routes from Kyiv and Lviv, as well as adding a fourth Airbus A320 aircraft at its Kyiv base in March 2019.

The new routes announced will operate from Kyiv to Breman, Billund and Riga and from Lviv to Copenhagen and Frankfurt Hahn.

“This news underlines once again Wizz Air’s commitment to Ukraine,” said Stephen Jones, executive vice president of Wizz Air. “We are happy to continue our investment with the addition of a fourth Airbus A320, creating more new direct jobs at Wizz Air as well as supporting over 1,000 jobs in aviation, tourism and other associated industries across the country. We are increasing our offer in Ukraine to more than 2.5 million tickets in 2019, on 42 routes available from three Ukrainian airports.”

The announcement brings Wizz Air’s investment in its Kyiv base to over 400 million US dollars in 2019 and increases its Ukraine operations by 45 per cent. The expansion of its local Kyiv base will bring the size of the local team up to more than 140 people.

“As the pioneer of lowest-fare air travel in Ukraine, we are looking to further stimulate the market and respond to the increasing demand for low fare tickets and great travel experience. The five routes announced today from Ukraine to Latvia, Germany and Denmark will for sure create the new opportunities our customers were waiting for,” added Stephen Jones.
